What cookies are

Cookies are small files a website saves in your browser. Similar technologies, such as your browser’s local storage, do the same job. This site is run by Focus Lens LTD (company number 15777574) as BE Academy, a training brand of British Engineers. How we use personal information more widely is explained in our Privacy Policy.

Cookies that are always on

These are needed for features you ask for, such as signing in or finishing a sign-up. They do not track you across other websites, and they are set only if you use those features. You cannot switch them off in our cookie banner, but you can block them in your browser settings (parts of the student area will then not work).

• Student sign-in cookie. Set when you sign in to your student account. It keeps you signed in for up to 7 days, or until you sign out.
• Sign-up continuation cookie. Set when you open the email verification link, so you can finish creating your account on the same device. It expires after 2 hours.
• Account check cookie. Set if we ask you to confirm a code during an account check. It expires after 30 minutes.

Your cookie choice

When you choose Accept or Reject in the cookie banner, we save your choice in your browser’s local storage so we do not ask you again. It stays on your device and is not sent to us.

Cookies that are off until you accept

Analytics and advertising tools load only after you accept in the cookie banner. Until then, Google’s consent settings stay set to denied and neither tool runs.

• Google Tag Manager runs our Google analytics and advertising measurement tags, so we can see how visitors use the site and how our advertising performs. Google may set its own cookies when these tags run.
• Hotjar records how visitors move around and click on pages, so we can find parts of the site that are confusing. Hotjar is not used to identify you.

These tools are loaded on our public website only, never in the staff area. The exact cookie names and lifetimes are set by Google and Hotjar and can change; their own cookie information describes them.

Changing your mind

You can change your choice at any time with the button below, or with “Cookie settings” in the footer of any page. You can also delete cookies in your browser settings. If you reject cookies, the site works in the same way.
